#WantItWednesday (30/10/13)

For this weeks #WantItWedneday I am getting into the spirit of Hallowe'en, even if I have less than 24 hours before the fated eve of insolent children demanding sweets on my doorstep!
As I am not one for the excessive glitter and the desperate need to wear 'sexy' versions civilian garb for Hallowe'en, so I have opted for the most popular accessory designer of the moment, Charlotte Olympia and her exquisite Hallowe'en collection.

This beautiful collection is hand finished, Olympia's collection is wonderfully quirky and beautiful, often crafted with interesting and unusual fabrics, inspired by the beautiful silhouettes of the 1940s.

I want it to be Hallowe'en everyday of the year if it means I can wear these beauties!

#WantItWednesday (23/10/2013)

For my first #WantItWednesday I am am talking about one life's greatest pastimes,
Tea.
A wonderful British tradition which is receiving a deserved resurgence. 'Taking Tea' is the English pastime, one which I try to observe at least 50 times a day! Whether grabbing a quick cup in the morning or splashing out with finger sandwiches and cream cakes in the late afternoon, I am a firm believer that if tea is involved in any way it should be drunk in style, with your pinky presented! You can find no better presentation than the beautiful specimen I am lusting after below.
Blue Calico Teacup Only 187ml/1/3pt

The Beautiful & British Staffordshire ceramicists at Burleigh create tea accessories begging to be mixed and matched. Established in 1851 this traditional Staffordshire Pottery hand finishes all of their ceramics using the difficult (and hypnotic to watch) tissue printing method.

Burleigh Pottery  Blue Calico Tea Cup & Saucer £12.50

I want every pattern and colour-way in my home, in my office and at every tea party I attend... if anyone is out there you know exactly what I want on a Wednesday!

Nails... Nails... Nails!!

I am passionate about nail art. I love painting my nails, I love having manicures and one of my favourite pastimes involves strolling the aisles marvelling at the plethora of new and exciting colours available.
Week after week I clog my Instagram feed with images of my new nail conceptions (to the left my manicure Du Jour) and thankfully, hundreds of the people I follow do the same.

It does fill me with an extra joy to know that of late, others seem to be coming out of the #Nailporn closet.

With the rise of nail powerhouse WAH Nails; having whimsical nails is THE thing to express your personality. It is something that doesn't have to break the bank, is quirky but doesn't scream 'FASHIONISTA' as much as a Philip Treacy creation atop your crown even if you are trying to channel the late but great Isabella Blow on the sly.

I tend to favour painting my own nails, it is a cathartic process that can take up an afternoon trialling block patterns, lines and fades for you to silently admire while on the tube for the next week. My new favourite endeavour, is buying (in bulk) the new Ciaté Kits, they are called 'Wow Kits' for a reason. Ciaté, famed first and foremost for their Caviar Manicure sets (£18.00). This 'gateway' kit (there is no other word for it) led me to hunt down & purchase the following sets Colourfoil (£18.00) & Velvet (£14.00). Each have their own benefits and personal vanity rewards that cannot be missed. There are lots of kits available and I haven't the time to try them all!

For the most eye catching manicure, good for a night or if you just want your nails to feel fabulous all the time the Caviar set is the one for the job. It is super easy to apply; you just paint your nails in either the colour that is provided with the kit (normally the best match) and press in the pearls and wait to dry. For a longer lasting manicure add a high gloss topcoat to secure the pearls (They can start to separate after a night on the town without it) you do run the risk of losing the lustre of the pearls in the White (Mother of Pearl) Cotton Candy Colourways. but it is not a notable change for everyday.
The Coloufoil, is a similarly easy and high impact manicure set. This is suited more for the everyday, but is can be made vibrant enough for your needs. You apply the base colour of your choosing, apply the glue once the colour is dry (I would recommend leaving this to dry for a minute or so) and going wild with the various foils in in the kit. This provides a fun, urban look good on both long and short nails and can be accentuated by not foiling all the nails or just foiling one (my preference when wearing this manicure is to only apply the foils to either the pinky or ring finger) this draws attention to the detailing and does look great if you've a few costume rings on.
The most troublesome to apply and maintain is undoubtedly the chicest. The velvet manicure is my personal favourite, but this really does take up an entire afternoon/evening to make sure it looks perfect. For the best results use the colour provided in the kit, paint the nail with the colour and immediately apply the velvet coating to the nail to ensure even coverage. I  would suggest doing one nail at a time if you aren't having a manicure party with friends (The most fun, I highly endorse and recommend this as an evening in) as you need to get even coverage while the polish is still wet and this can really only be achieved if you work one at a time, you don't get a second chance either. The manicure lasts for about three days, if you don't get your nails wet, get any oils on them (moisturising is OUT) but they look and feel amazing. you'll find yourself stroking your nails at any given opportunity!

I have also been playing around with modified French Tips, this is an easy manicure look if you fancy having easy, chic nails for the week. You can play around with striking bases, neutral bases, neon and glitter tips you could use a matte topcoat for the base; essentially the world is your oyster with an infinite array of options only limited to your imagination.
I have found, if you aren't comfortable painting your tips blind if you have an opaque base (I am not and have had many a wonky French Manicure to prove it!) you can use these to help you get the perfect shape. they are designed to perfectly shape the nail and are great for stripes in addition to French Manicures. For the Strip to work you will need to make sure the base coat is bone dry before attaching these to the nail. This week I have gone for a metallic base (Models Own - Pink Fizz)  with a neutral tip (Nails Inc - Porchester Square). An easy and modern update to the traditional and chic French Manicure, eye catching enough for you to feel amazing and for others to take notice.

No doubt I will find more nail polishes, colours and manicure sets for you all to try yourself. let me know of your success with any of the above!

I am off to match my colours for next week!

A Birthday Wish List

As I have just entered my mid (to late) twenties I am now finding the the increasing usefulness of the 'Birthday Wishlist'. The list, sent to every family member, best friend, husband/boyfriend, flatmate or just anyone you would like to have a gift from on a day that is specifically for you eliminates the ever increasing frozen face, often practised before a the presentation of yet another lip gloss gift set from Boots.

Because I am now entering into the ever public blogsphere, I thought digitising my wish list for all to see and for others to (ahem) take note.
I am being conservative and listed my top ten rather than the usual fifteen pages (front and back) that is par for the course for my closest family members and best friends.

Please take note, by all means copy the wish list idea and definitely let me know of your preferred method of gifting coercion!

10. Sequins are the cornerstone of any amazing outfit that will turn heads and this top is an amazingly chic way to do so. Make it casual by adding a crisp white shirt underneath with a pair of cigarette trousers in slate grey for a sparkly everyday pick-me-up or Vamp it up with a leather mini and a statement necklace.
Whistles, £195

9. I don't care that I have nearly every colour in the entire range, but this is always a welcome gift in my book! These jumpers can be worn with ANYTHING, dressed up with a patterned skirt, bare legs with a pair of fancy heels and dressed down with a pair of jeans and a nice cuff. It really is a shame they don't make them in enough colours so I am able to wear one of these every day of the year. Casual Perfection!
American Apparel Fisherman Jumper, £66

8. Birthdays mean(at least to me anyway) JEWELS! An opportunity to ask for rock on your birthday is much better than nagging your significant other for 'that' ring! My personal favourite are the rising trend for stacking rings, and the jeweller who perfects the art of a gorgeous stacking Ring is Monica Vinader . Made from exquisite precious metals and and artfully rough hewn stones these rings single handedly revive the 'more is more campaign' not to outdo Mr. T. I would very much like to have these proudly stacked on every other finger available. Monica Vinader Prices from£50

7. I always tend to put practical things on my birthday wishlist as it always frees up my money for much prettier, special occasion things that feeds the insatiable shopaholic monster that resides in my being. Practical, doesn't have to mean boring and the staple that is Converse All Stars are not exception. These may bring back memories of sullen adolescents and jeans with the circumference of a giant's head, but they are classics for a reason. Stick with the classic shades, Red, White and Black. They were made to go with anything and are comfortable and give  you instant cool points (even if it that is just in my head) The widest selection I have found outside of a Converse Store can be found here Prices From £49.99

6.  I know I am part of an ever decreasing number of people who appreciate a good diary/notebook nestled in the bowels of my bag. It does make me feel like a grown up having one and I do, rather self indulgently whipping it out at any given occasion. My Personal favourite notebook/diary of choice is of course the Moleskine, I prefer the hard-backed version and the new colours that have been introduced add a bit of fun and a whizz of excitement every time I write my weekly shopping list. My colour of choice,  however impractical is white and can be found here The Large (My size of choice) is £13.50

5. I am autumnal child and as a result my birthday celebrations are often on the chillier side of the year. So I always tend to find a good Winter coat often lands itself on my list, year after year. Of course this year is no exception and I have been swinging wildly between fashionable pink and the sensible camel as the coat of choice for colder climes. I still haven't been able to decide so both colours have landed on my list this year. The Pink Coat from Hobbs £239 is classically cut and just the right side of pink to make you feel like you are standing apart from the crowd for the right reasons. The camel coat, is a modern take on a similar cut but it just makes you feel spectacular every time you put on your shoulders. This absolute beauty can be found in French Connection and is a surprising £175 easily allowing you to go for both this winter!
Lacey Coat

4. Because the aforementioned climes are drawing in I tend to stick to flats during the colder months to avoid any ankle induced injuries when the inevitable ice sets in. These flats however have filled me with a joy that will make me wish it were slightly icy every morning! These beautiful and unusual flats from See by Chloe are complete confectionery for the feet and you will want to thrust your feet in the direction of anyone that mentions the colder weather and their choice of footwear! the best part is that they are on SALE!! An incredible 50% off.

I am DYING! £122

Tree Zip Around Wallet3. It's a Family superstition that you should never use your own money to buy a purse (I have no idea either?!) So I use my birthday as the traditional time of year to request a new receptacle  or all of my important receipts, credit cards and loyalty cards. This one has particularly captured my imagination.
It is grown up, without being dowdy or 'affected' and I am of the opinion that wallets and purses should always be of a classic hue. this ticks all the boxes and is genuinely fabulous! Mulberry, £275
Charlotte Olympia  front2. I am a BIG fan of platform wedges and every time I come across a new pair I do dream about them for weeks until they are in my possession  The Charlotte Olympia 'Carmen' Wedges are no exception. They are of a very sensual deep crimson red, not at all practical for the season but birthdays are not about being practical!                                                                                    I find these would complete a wonderfully luxurious look partnered with the sequinned top listed as my number 10 and will haunt my dreams for weeks to come! £525

Alexander Wang 1.  The item most coveted my birthday list is obviously saved for last. Everyone should have a decent handbag. I prefer mine, large and in charge and built for the inevitable crushing that both myself and the central put it through on a daily basis. This Alexander Wang matches all of these requirements and is pretty beautiful while it does so. It comes with an handy little shoulder strap as well so it is essentially the PERFECT handbag. I will be waiting for this at my birthday party and will pull a fully deserved birthday tantrum if I don't get it! £835
