#WantItWednesday (30/04/14)

I live in navy, grey & beige. I cannot get enough of the safest palette known to man. It's perfect for work, going out (with a few 'jazzy' accessories) or just slobbing about at a boozy brunch with friends. The colour palette is my best friend, my comfort and the easiest way to look chic on a daily basis.

But then I saw this. This brightly coloured embellished piece of confection. The top MAKES me want to wear it and be impossibly glamorous. I want to go dancing and drink more colourful cocktails than I care to imagine this early on a Wednesday morning.

It makes me want to be fun and it should make you too!
That's the beauty of Mary Katranzou and her impossibly fun collections. They make you want to be fun, all the time. They are cheerful and intricate and accentuate your best bits.

This is part of a two piece (seen here)
This would be perfect as a luxurious wedding outfit.
I think the crop top is the most versatile piece and can be worn as an embellished casual piece or dressed up for maximum summer vamp appeal.

If this can make me want out of the safest palette. I'm pretty sure it will make you too!

#WantItWednesday (23/04/14)

Easter is over, summer is nearing and I am excited to shake off my jacket and start wearing lighter clothes, just like everyone else

This shirt will become an essential for the summer and possibly forever, not just because it's loose, gorgeous and endlessly versatile. It goes with anything. Fancy pairing a kimono jacket with jeans and plimsolls it's perfect for that.

If you want to be a little dramatic with a pair of heels and statement jewellery?
Peachy for that too!

If you fancy being a little bohemian(if you're so inclined), it will look great with a pair of harem pants.

It simply goes with everything, and then some. You can get this shirt you'll wish you already had here.

I am already a massive fan of Elizabeth & James; not just because I'm more than a little obsessed with it's creators, Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen. The personify a style that is often attempted, never perfected. Casual Chic at it's utter finest. The label understands a sartorial need before you've even thought of it is typical of the label, Elizabeth & James. Easy, effortlessly chic and evokes luxury in a wonderfully subtle fashion.

I would love to put all of Elizabeth & James on my #WantItWednesday list, but I will refrain (for now) and give you my top three in addition to the piece of confection above:

Clockwise (L-R) -Vivi TopShadia DressEyre Bracelet

Have a look and you'll fall in love, if you haven't already!

#WantItWednesday (16/04/14)

I am not just obsessed with clothes and accessories. I am more than wild about homeware too. This is yet another beautiful addition to my eclectic and over crowded cupboard in the kitchen in my flatshare.

I will of course, make room in my cupboard for this remarkable Carafe set from Bib & Sola.
Each Carafe & Glass is hand blown so no two look the same and come in a variety of colours. The rose (Pictured above) is my particular favourite with the white (right) a close second.

These look best on an a diverse bedside table as a water carafe; or (as if I needed another excuse for wine) as wonderful centre piece for a relaxed Easter evening at home with friends on an elegant driftwood coffee table.

Everyone should have a carafe in their home and this is a wonderful place to start your collection. You even get your green credentials with this too, as a proportion of the profits are donated charities. So raise a glass or two; I certainly will!

#WantItWednesday (09/04/14)

I am a spectacle wearer.

It is not an admission of guilt; I am a PROUD member of the "four eyes" club.
I am often guilty of calling out the secret contact lens wearers
and those who pretend to have less than 20/20 vision.

(yes, you lens-less wonder)

Glasses are not only practical, (and in my case essential, I am as blind as a bat) they are beautiful and help accentuate and frame (see what I did there) simple eye make up; whether it's with a simple winged eye, or a bronzed lid.

My stance on the on the whole spectacle debate that there are too many beautiful and sartorially appropriate bits of face furniture out there; you would be crazy to not to get hundreds of pairs.

These are going to be my latest acquisition for #WantItWednesday. The Oliver Peoples Sir Finlay. Oliver Peoples is by no means a new phenomenon. They have been in the spectacle making game for over twenty years. It all started with an estate collection of vintage specs sold under the name of "Oliver Peoples". The legend was born and has continued to grown ever since.

These wonderful pieces of face art (because glasses are 'art') are worn from everyone from Jake Gyllenhaal to Rosie Huntington Whiteley and it is easy to understand why.

These are classic in style and make you look far more cultured may actually be.The classic light tortoise shell is an instant winner for Spring/Summer and from day to night so it would be ludicrous not to wear them from morning to night.

I am graduating from the omnipresent Club Master and these Paul Frank Beauties
I cannot wait to get these on my face!

Sartorial Spotlight: Nomcore

Something I had noticed from the latest round fashion weeks has been the emergence of an anti-trend that seems to be taking over the sartorial spectrum.

This all stemmed from an interesting and insightful article from Vogue that ended up confirming an aesthetic I had already subscribed to without realising. Fans of my Tumblr page are well aware of this ideal; Clean, androgynous lines, in neutral colours, most notably healthy variations of beige, grey. black and cream. But what does this all mean?

The urban dictionary definition of Nomcore states that "A subculture based on conscious, artificial adoption of things that are in widespread use, proven to be acceptable, or otherwise inoffensive. Ultra-conformists"

This is, in essence the embodiment of anti-fashion, so why has this become a trend? Why am I and others seeing this on countless blogs, street style websites and magazines? This could be for one simple reason, people adore fashion, follow fashion and aspire to own fashion. But life often gets in the way. Sometimes it is not possible to wear Louboutin's on the tube, or to go full 'haute' for lunch. Nomcore has come to the forefront, purely because it is a stylisation of our off duty selves.

I speak from personal experience; working in the field that I am very lucky to do I often find myself, day after day wearing a uniform of your own making that is comfortable and fit for purpose. Throughout the course of a working day you could be anywhere from rummaging in sample cupboards and travelling across London, meeting with clients or presenting figures and trends to members of your team. While a 'uniform' is a loose interpretation of Nomcore, it is the most plausible one. You always want to look great and trend led at work (well, I do at least) and you want to be comfortable and able to run from pillar to post to get your job done.

In order to do this, you find that you revert to the same variation of comfortable, fit for purpose clothing.

The official interpretation of the Nomcore wardrobe, taken from William Gibson's Pattern
Recognition
 is as follows:

"A small boy's black Fruit of the Loom T-shirt, a thin gray (sic) V-neck pullover purchased by the half-dozen from a supplier to the New England prep schools, and a new and oversized pair of black 501's, every trademark carefully removed."

This is not, as buzzfeed and others suggest regression to wearing over-sized Dad shirts and
Seinfeld trainers. There is a reason this look is seen best on Freja Beha Erichsen and Erin Wasson off duty.

This is a look that transitions from day to night easily, because it the the essence of versatility. You can give this a try for the spring by wearing some easy plimsolls and a light jacket. Continue into Autumn/Winter with a pea coat and a pair of brogues, while wrapping up warm with an over-sized knitted scarf.

It's easy to make your own, the beauty of the trend (or an evolution of it) is to add accessories. You can have your staple of jeans, t-shirt/shirt jumper or cardigan in variations of beige, grey. navy and cream (which is currently 70% of my wardrobe) but if the idea of blending in gives you the shivers add an interesting cluster of bracelets, wear your hair up in a scarf, have a large (functional, of course) brightly coloured handbag.

Nomcore is the perfect canvas for your own creativity. It's easy, it's comfortable and it's definitely here to stay. I am definitely going to attack the last 30% of my wardrobe, I think Black is on the cards next!

#WantItWednesday (02/04/2014)

Hello April!!

Spring is finally here and I for one am incredibly excited! The weather makes me want to frolic outside for extended periods and have picnics in every park in London at every given opportunity.

This unnatural need to frolic, requires comfortable footwear and you should look no further than these incredible versatile kicks from Superga.

The Italian footwear company is a staple in their native Turin and have been one of Italy's best kept secrets ever since (The don't call it 'The People's Shoe of Italy' without warrant!)

Worn with Skinny jeans and a loose shirt, or a fabulous floaty sun dress these are the perfect kicks to kickback in.

These are the grown up, chic alternative to the ubiquitous converse, which you of course already own and love and are the fashinonista's plimsolls of choice; worn by the likes of Alexa Chung, Suki Waterhouse (who has collaborated with the brand on a fabulous collection) & The Olsen Twins; these amazing plimsolls are perfect for everything.

I normally pair mine with a pair of skinny jeans and a loose shirt and this forms part of my weekly work uniform (Have a look on my thoughts on uniforms here). They are INCREDIBLY comfortable and are available in a plethora of amazing colours, fabrics, skins and heights.

Quirk them up with a pair of fun, colourful socks with jeans or go bare legged with a jersey midi dress or skirt with a casual jumper. I personally cannot get enough of these plimsolls and will wear and love them just as much as I did when I first slipped on my favourite pair of light pink Converse aged 14. Get ready, you've just found a new trainer love.
